House of the Wretched 14 hints left

This is the first episode's most complicated achievement. You'll need to complete several steps to unlock it.

What do I need?

The first thing you need to do is use the correct door code during the dream sequence. Follow these hints to get the right code, or see the quickhint below.

What next?

You'll need to find Sal's favourite portable gaming console.

Where do boys usually keep their games?

Tell me where to find the Gear Boy.

In Sal's bedroom, push the TV to the far left.

What now?

Your Gear Boy doesn't have any batteries, but you'll find some in Sal's apartment.

Your dad may have bought some.

Tell me where to find the batteries.

Search the bags in Sal's kitchen and you'll get some batteries for your Gear Boy.

If there aren't any batteries in there, you should restart and use the correct door code.

What now?

Sal doesn't have any games to play. You'll need to find one.

You might get lucky with the lost-and-found box.

The lost-and-found box in the basement will give you a game if you interact with it.

This game is, like, super broken. Fixing it is a convoluted process that's easy to mess up, so the next hint will spoil the steps you need to take.

After meeting Larry and getting the game from the lost-and-found, you'll need to:

Enter apartment 504
Follow the story to investigate room 403
Ask Larry if the building is haunted
Head to the right of floor 3 and ask the boy there, Chug, if the building is haunted
Take a quarter from Dad's bedroom in apartment 402 and give it to Chug
Enter the bathroom of apartment 504
Exit the bathroom, talk to Chug, and re-enter the bathroom
Open your inventory and use your Gear Boy - it's working!
Beat all five levels to get the 'House of the Wretched' achievement.

The next few hints will help you with the mini-game's levels.

Level 1

The edges of the screen hide some extra secrets.

Run off the left side of the screen and interact with the hidden gravestone to get a key.

Level 2

When you've checked the fire pit on the far left, one of the trees will give you a stick.

Interact with the tree left of the gate. The twig can be used on the fire pit to get a key.

Level 3

Try moving some of the furnitue around.

The key is underneath the armchair on the left; interact with it to move it aside.

Level 4

One of the bookshelves may hold a secret. The same is true of the filing cabinets.

The rightmost bookcase and leftmost filing cabinet hold the keys you need.

Level 5

This one is fairly linear; interact with everything you find.

The achievement will unlock after reading a note and returning to the real world.
