Hint 1

Let's ask the person who sent the pictures in the first place.

Hint 2

When Nancy talks to Yumi, Nancy says the characters are numbers. (I wonder how she knew?) Yumi says Nancy should "take a good look around and think about situations where numbers come in handy." Now what does that mean?

Hint 3

If you thoroughly explored Yumi's apartment, you might have noticed something that needs a set of four Japanese characters to open. If you didn't explore it, you'll get your chance now --

-- because Yumi has you do one more bento box for her, then bullies you into staying at her apartment for the night. Okay, well, it's a little claustrophobic, but whatever. Once you're there, search the place for something that has four slots to be filled in with characters that should look pretty familiar to you by now.
